Awesome Coffee Table

This is a coffee table made by my roommate and I. It's made of 105mm shell casings and an ammo crate. It's surprisingly sturdy and works well. It only cost about $50 and took an hour to put together.

  1. Does that thing really works? *suspicious*

  2. Yeah, it does work. the shell casings are pretty heavy in the bottom so it's nice and sturdy. I'm debating on getting a tempered glass top for it.

  3. I believe a tempered glass top would add a polish to an already amazing piece of work. Good job, by the way! Be sure to post any more cool things you've made.

  6. I actually ordered them from an online surplus store. This came with everything, just needed some wood screws and tin cable holders.

  14. As cool as that looks, you seriously have to get that out of your dorm room immediately!

Wooden ammo crates are treated with very nasty chemicals that keep the wood from disintegrating in jungle and seawater environments. These chemicals will gas out into the air in your dorm and make you chronically sick over time.

I had one as a kid and after a while I became sick constantly with flu-like symptoms for quite some time until we narrowed it down to the ammo crate I was using as a footlocker. The CDC confirmed that those things should never be kept in living spaces and told me that they are very very toxic and could lead to significant long term health issues (read cancer or something like it).

If you value your health, then get rid of that thing immediately!
